I play the violin myself , and from time to time I have the same problem . Depending on the difficulty of the piece you are working on you or I should say we all tend to lock our jaws. When you practice try to relax yourself , especially your neck and shoulders . I do believe that the whole thing leads to one another.I sometimes force myself to chew a gum just to relax my mouth and not to crunch it. I hope I could help . Good luck and have fun .

Probably it will. Violin playing - ANY instrumental playing can be hard on your body. If you're getting a sore jaw, check yourself while you play: Are you clamping your teeth down hard while playing? People commonly clamp their jaws down while practicing an instrument. It's a dysfunctional tension. You just have to catch yourself doing it and relax it - let it go. Then again and again.

There are special supports available at music stores by ordering which change the angle, making it less painful.
