What in the human condition makes us want to become addicted?

Obviously I'm not speaking for every person, however there is a large number of people who are addicted to something. The effects on the person's life are never good.

I think everyone has an addiction, yes everyone!,,,and addiction doesn't have to be bad such as, drugs, alcohol or gambling, or even pornography....there are also other addictions that i think people don't think twice about it...people can have an addiction to working, cleaning, being a perfetcionist, even be addicted to collecting things, ect. I can go on and on about all different types of addictions, that's why i say everyone in some level has an addiction of something. I really don't know why, but what i think the reason for this is, simply whatever the addiction might be it somehow stimulates our mind, and becomes a physical routine.

Sometimes there is a biological reasoning for addiction. LIke for some drugs. Your body becomes dependent and there's no control that you have over the situation. Same with alcohol, I believe.

Other things are addictive, I think, because they feel good. When people's pleasure centers are stimulated (and I don't mean that in a sexual way!) they're going to do the action which made them feel that way in the first place.

Because we are all human, we do the things that makes us happy and feel good. A big % of us are not strong enough to not become addicted. That's life, sad but true.

Oh, and I'm also addicted to cigarettes.

I think addictions when someone is searching for gratification. It just kinda happens through peer influence or availability.

I think we pick them up because we think it'll make our lives better, we'll do anything to distract ourselves from something that is making us miserable, even if we know it's bad for us.
