Does anyone else wake up some mornings surprised they are the age that they are? I am surprised at times I am not 17,and exclaim"47? When the heck did that happen?"What is a mid-life "crisis"? Regret?Sadness?Panic?

I believe it to be a point in our lives when we first realize that we have probably achieved to the highest level of potential, and now we are taking that slow turn toward the end.

That epiphany or realization that our time has run out on our altruistic dreams and wishful fantasies is sobering.

In fact, we cannot and will not accept it without a fight. We will tend to attempt to recapture our zest and enthusiasm by indulging ourselves in material objects and rationalizations.

Eventually, most of us will accept our fate gracefully, and begin the process of re-aligning our dreams based on our current reality.

Of course, I haven't reached that point yet.

Ah, it all depends: how do you feel about yourself? Your life? Your job? Your family? "midlife" should mean the middle of one's life span, but is used to mean the 40-somethings or even the 50-somethings. It's like that song, "Amanda, you light up my life...finally reached 40, still wearing jeans...".
Oh, yes, I wish I was only in my 40's; of course, I can remember things better that happened 40 years ago better than I can remember yesterday!
We all wake up, someday, to be surprised we are as old as we are; it's what do you do with "the first day of the rest of your life" and on that counts!
