Well easy answer it's a 10. That is probably one of the best sophmore efforts by a band ever. They evolved their sound and redfined themselves beyond what anyone could have expected. The music was so melodic and well put together. It was also extremely dark. I would have to say james put in his best lyric work on this album. Tracks like Escape, Trapped under ice, For whom the bell tolls, not to mention fade to black. I mean fuggedaboutit this album ruled the roost. And then master of puppets came out.

It's one of their best, and I'd give it an 8. The only album of theirs I'd rate higher is "And Justice For All", at a 9.

It is probably one if not their greatest albums so I'd have to say a 9-9.5. Metallica needs to get back to their roots.

ok lets say master of puppets is a solid ten, then ride the lighting is a 9.5, just a classic thrash to the bone album.
