I study astronomy___
The thing that someone wrote about the mayan calander is correct
But what happens in 2012 is that the planets will all aline with the sun
they will all cross paths
it is a very rare occurence and i am looking forward to studying it
hope this helps--

I have a commit about the guy who talked about a meteor that will hit the earth
that is actually estimated to happen in about 35 years--thanks

Nothing unusual will happen in 2012, there is no zero point Fieldd the magnetic field of the earth will do nothing, no asteroids or comets will hit the earth, and the Mayan calendar will simply roll over to another cycle. I suggest you save the comments in answer to your question for 5 years, so you can look at them when you are 5 years older and realize what a silly idea it was.

Nothing will happen. Some people say the Mayan calendar ends on that date and they wrote it that way because they knew the world would end. I say the Mayans could not predict the future and they ended their calendar then just because they saw no reason to write out a calendar farther than what for them was hundreds or even thousands of years in the future.

If you're worried, do some research and find out more.
Google "Mayan calendar" or "2012" and see what you can find our for yourself, then make up your own mind as to how valid a 3000-year old prediction really is.

On December 21, 2012 the world is supposed to end because the that's when the Mayan calendar stops. Many things the Mayans predicted have came true. I don't know if I believe it or not though.

Some kind of doomsday date, the poles of the sun are supposed to reverse, The Great Awakening, Mayan Calendar prophecies, Peak Oil "peak date" (this one could be serious), etc, etc.

Start digging for the "fallout" shelter, pull your hair out, start running around in circles...

A scientist named Nostradamus used a system of astronomy and the Mayan calender and predicted the end of the world. (coincidentally the Mayan calender abruptly ended on December 22nd 2012)...sorry :( bye.

apparently the poles are supposed to shift, causing all sorts of havoc. I liken these predictions to the Y2K predictions... I'd worry more about trans-fat if I were you. That's the real threat.
