No way, you're really lucky. It's comforting to build a bond where you go, especially to relax and refuel. I live in Springfield, Mo. The third largest city in the state. I am WELL known when I go to local eateries. Dates with attractive female servers is no problem. IF they like you, they retain alot of info. on your habits when being a customer. If they like you on top of that, it's a plus. I hate going somewhere where all I see are strangers. It only starts out that way.

pathetic? "no" ... just a symptom of life's reality in the 21st century
they know my sandwich type at Ralph's where I go twice a week to get a sandwich for 4 years pretty regularly
(one "large" makes lunch for 2 days)
I like most of the deli-people and have learned their routine too and some of their lives and histories and seen workers come and go ... 'home away from home'
it's a nice break from "work"

Well they may not get a lot of people who will take the effort to speak to them, its a nice time in their day (and yours) when you can stop and have a chat. Its not pathetic, you are a nice person. Its part of their job also to be involved with their customers.

Nope hell im a normal guy with a normal life but i walk into ihop and before i sit down my drink is at my usual table and my waiters asking if i want the usual tonight or if im even hungry

No...what is pathetic is that you have yet to purchase part ownership in the local coffeehouse as you are there so often it sounds like it has become your second home.

Nah, the local coffee shop here knows my name first and last! and my fave drinks! lol but my brother works there....
If you're nice they'll take the time to get to know you...if not than they just want to get you your drink without spilling it on themselves or you.
