This will take a little research on your part. When I was in a band, we got a list of ALL the top songs for the past few decades. We chose our set lists from that.
Why not? They were the most popular, people wanted to hear them. We got them, believe it or not, from a radio station.
There was way too many good ones to choose from, and of course, there were some that technically we could not do.
Look for the STANDARDS. The usual early R&R songs, and a few of the most well known modern ones.

Yes the first song you should learn (when i list these im purly speaking the basic parts) is smoke ont he water it simple and somewhat fun the second should be iron man becouse it get slightly more chalenging the tnt by acdc as another step up and then the final chalange enter sandman by metallica this will give you basic structural idea and help learn finger rythems after these the challange is up to you

Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple. I knew a kid in the sixth grade and that's all he could play. If he could remember it, then it shouldn't be too much trouble for you! :) Plus, it's a classic!

To me the ultimate guitar player should know "Smoke on the Water" by Deep Purple. It's a major classic!
