I think they are fritillary caterpillars. I'm not 100% because I usually get rid of them before they get big enough to really identify. I don't mind a few, but they are stripping my sunflowers. I just pick them off and/or knock them into a pail of soapy water.

Go to your local lawn & garden place and they will be able to answer your question and suggest a dust, oil, or general chemical that will stop them.
