Balance is more or less and evenness of weights, sort of like a ying and yang there is no pull or push from either side. The only way to truely have balance between what others see of you and what you know of yourself is for them to be one and the same.

Think of it this way with out getting too personal, you have a certain color skin, you know the color of your skin (i'm using skin here just in case your bald, hair would have been a lot less controversial) Anyway you know the color of your skin and so dose everyone else so there is an even balance between the two.

The simplest way to keep a balance in what others think of you and what you know of your-self is for them to be one and the same. Don't put on a fake you because then there's an imbalance, and don't let others think something of you that's not true you must correct it or again you have an imbalance.

It's very important to have a "balance," but of course this doesn't mean it is an equal 50-50. Nor should it be. Think of it as a scale: In one scale is what you know of yourself, & in the other, what people perceive of you. The scale should always tip in favour of what YOU know. I'd never be so pompous or callous that I could say: "I don't CARE what others think of me!" That would be rather foolish, for care or not--your life is effected by the perceptions of others, to at least some extent. It's also wise to consider how you are peceived by those whom you respect; you may gain some insight (whether you accept it or not). To indisciminately "see" yourself through the disparity of others perceptions would not only confuse you, but possibly "lose" YOU. No one can ever, ever, know you as you know yourself. That is as far as I can go here, as to how to find balance. I hope it's helped a tad.

Well i try to keep it in balance, for instance, i am who i am, i wont change myself, unless i feel it is for the better. I do believe people should better themselves. And i do well to make sure i don't greatly offend others, i think that is wrong. I know someone who really did not care what they did in public. Let me tell you,, i couldn't stand them and no one else could either. There really needs to be a balance.

Your "reputation" rests in the minds of others. I leave it there.

Where someone's observation of you is negative or positive, it is always possible to consider their motivation in telling you this about yourself.

Personally, I don't care what other's think of me. Nor am I going to go out of my way to make them my best friend. They either like me for who I am or they don't

Descartes famous quote:
Cogito ergo sum. "I think therefore I am".
I say: Cogito cogito ergo cogito sum. "I THINK I think, therefore I THINK I am.

That's all you can know. That's all there IS to know.

The other great quote: "To thine own self be true".
If you know who you are it doesn;t MATTER what the others think. ALL of them will be wrong. They cannot read your heart or mind. It is hard enough for YOU to do. It is impossible for them to do it.

Don't worry about what others think of you. If you go around trying to please everyone else (which is impossible), you will never know who the REAL you is.
