i just recently received a very thin leopard gecko, i saw it and knew right away is was not good. but i felt i could help it because i have experience raising them. so far it has not been eating. it is so thin i can see pretty much everything when it breathes and it has flaps of skin where it should have fat. he also has two disabled arms, the two front ones, how can i help him.

You can try offering him Repta Aid It is a formula that you can purchase at your pet store. You mix it up according to the directions and slowly force feed it. The product comes with a syringe for feeding. This gives your gecko more calories and protein to build it up. You can also try wax worms which are very fatty and full of protein. Good luck with your gecko, it is going to take a lot of patience to try and bring him back to good health.

First, make sure he is warmed up. You should have an undertank heating pad and the temp on the floor of his tank should be 88-91F--use an indoor/outdoor digital thermometer taped to the floor to read (set to "outdoor"). They need belly heat to digest. Do not use any kind of loose substrate such as sand on the bottom--it is a major cause of impactions. Try soaking him in a little warm water--he might be dehyrated or impacted already. Have him vet checked for intestinal parasites--a common problem. Feed him crickets or mealworms, no bigger than the space between his eyes--you may have to put them in the fridge for a few minutes to slow them down so he can catch them. If he won't eat, you'll have to hand feed him. Try babyfood turkey and a syringe and go slow. Give him 3 hiding places--1 on the cool side, 1 dry hide on the warm side, and 1 moist hide on the warm side. Give him a small bowl of water and a tiny cup of calcium powder. Go to

I suggest that you take it to the nearest vet that specializes in exotics, if you don't know one near you go to http://www.dexonline.com and search for one, it's easy! :-) But if you can't find one, I have no suggestions exept for you to keep trying to give her some food and don't lose hope. Just make sure you're giving her the right food (crickets no bigger than the space between her eyes) With a thin tail, they can't survive very long, if it won't eat it most likely has no more than 4 or 5 days to live, depending on how long it hasn't been eating! :-( I'm sorry that I don't know more. Just try to find a vet!!! :-)
