This question has been under discussion for a long time. "People like Arnold Schwarzenegger" are people who have made America a great country. The Governator has proven his dedication to America; he has married a prominent American from a political family; he has governed a large and important State. He has shown his worth and ability. Back in the day, discussion was fierce over amending the Constitution to allow Henry Kissinger (another devoted naturalized citizen) to run for President. It never got anywhere. But, as many on this site have indicated, times have changed. I would like to see "people like that" permitted to run for the highest office in America. We would be all the richer for it.

No, I think the Constitution is fine in this regard. Mr. Schwarzenegger is my Governor, although I did not vote for him. My concern is that if we allow American citizens who are born in other countries to run for President, we don't know what their real motive might be. What if one of those sleeper cells from Al-Qaeda came here and lived for years as peaceful citizens. Then one of them ran for President on a completely false platform and was elected. What could that lead to? Granted, this is a worst-case scenario, but why take a chance in this day and age?

When you consider the diversity of race/country of origin in our country and the influx of people coming into the US, I think it's only a matter of time before people coming in from other countries will be allowed to be President. I believe there need to be stipulations behind it such as knowing the country's history, but when you think about it - many of those coming to the US know more about our past than many of us who were born here. Sad...

Why not? Couldn't do much worse than who you've got now. If someone who is not born in the US has taken the trouble to become a citizen (something that natural born citizens don't have to do) then why shouldn't they be able to run for president?

I think it is cool, Times are changing, ideas are coming from around the world from different people, we are uniting as one world. Lets make this country whole by accepting this change. This change will show how we can evolve and accept everyone around us. This world was meant for us not to separate cultures and people, but to unite as one. Let's do it, Let's vote for it, We are the future.
And the people vote who will be president this shows that anyone has the opportunity to shot for the top. We are a nation of opportunity lets make it a reality. This would be the beginning of one of many changes to be an evolved society. This is the 21st century lets make it anew.

Yes. There is no reason to impose such a restriction that prohibits those who have chosen to make our nation their home from leading it. No such restrictions exist in the UK or Canada to whom can be Prime Minister.
If someone has been a citizen for 25 years and meets all the other requirements for holding the office, they should be allowed to run for office also.

No. Let's say they pass the amnesty, does that means that Pancho can run for President too?
You don't want to know Pancho.-
OK let me put it this way, only a republican would think of something like that.

No.
It is perfectly fine the way it is. We have enough native born Americans to hold that office.
