WAIT. STOP. DONT DO IT LOL. Absolutely, under no circumstances do what you asked about! SAE30, and 10w30 are radically different viscosities. Furthermore, the 10w30 wont disapate heat for anything. I can't beleive anyone would tell you this is okay.

It's your mower man, but listen. If you put that 10w30 in there, GET IT OUT! AND flush it out with an engine flush, or it will lower the viscosity of the proper oil once you put it in. Again, SAE30, and 10w30 are radically different oils.

If it says SAE 30, then you should use SAE30, if your car said 5W30, would you use 10w30 or an oil NOT specified by the car manufacturer?

the difference between SAE 30 and SAE 10W-30 is that the latter has better cold weather pumpability.

you can use it. SAE 30 and SAE 10W-30 are both 30 weight oils(meaning their kinematic viscosities at 100C are between 9.3 and 12.5 centistokes). The 10W means that it also meets certain cold weather performance standards. check out this Amsoil commercial grade synthetic oil: http://www.amsoil.com/redirect.cgi?zo=1463115&page=storefront/ase

Yes, but if the manual says 30 weight, why wouldn't you use it?

No. You want to use a non-detergent 30w motor oil in any small engine.

You can use anything you want, it is your lawnmower.

However, if the manufacturer says to use SAE30 then that is what I would use.
