Let's first define terrorism (as opposed to arson, etc.):
I define it as non-government individuals or groups who attack civilians for political purposes. If you accept that definition, here's how I answer your question:

*The only 100% fool-proof anti-terrorism program is authoritarianism, like Saddam's Iraq (no longer there) and North Korea. That means fighting terrorism always takes away civil liberties to some degree. The key is to find a balance, while accepting that a threat will always have to exist, even if it is small.

In the long-term, one has to ask whether being hated helps us fight terrorism, especially in this globalized world. We depend on other countries to catch bad guys bound for the U.S., so we have to, at the very least, not be hated by EVERYONE.

In the end, a balance of strong anti-terrorism laws, protection of civil liberties, and diplomacy, will minimize the threat, but never eradicate it. After all, terrorism is a tactic, and whether it is used by Islamic fundamentalists now, or by anarchists at the turn of the 20th century, it is a tactic favored by extremists of all stripes.

I sort of agree WITH THE ANSWER that sadi Nuke all the muslims -- just not that extent

I think when we find an enclave we just send in a small nuke device and then tell the world it was one of their "suitcase bombs that must have gone off bt accident"

Or just nuke half ot Iraq and give the land to the Palestinians

They rebuilt on Hiroshima almost immediately and from What I know the cancer rate there has not gone up significatly

Now to the Problem with the borders

In the last month alone over 500 people have been caught or turned themselves in to authorities coming in from Cuba

Two weeks ago 3o of these walked up to police officer Near Boca Grande Fl and Told them they had landed on the beach ( thats right they had to approch the police )

A weeK ago 24 ran their boat onto a beach within 15 miles of Cape Coral _ the second largest city Area wise in FL

We are supposed to have a radar system located near Key West that monitors ALL boat traffic in the Gulf for 200 miles - THAT IS obviously NOT working

What if Al Quead is watching our news ( we all know they are ) and see this --- I am sure they would try to get in this way -- and if they are caught there will be more until they do get some in -

You are saying so what SW florida only has about 350,000 people

But if these infiltrators can place bombs on ONLY 8 stragtegic bridges they can isolate the whole lower part of the state and the Keys ( about 1.5 million people ) and then unleash some type of bio weapon

The people in the lower penisula would be trapped and all bunched up in an area about 100 miles wide and 10 miles deep - with no way to get North of about the 24 degree parallel

We are trouble !!!!

Not at this point. But, after the next major terrorist attack, it might be possible to establish a deterent against future attacks by responding with an overwhelming retaliatory strike of some sort. Fighting terror with much greater terror. I doubt anyone in the civilized world would want to restort to something so barbaric, though.

There are ways of stopping terrorist attacks.

Diligence on behalf of authorities and public awareness have already thwarted a few, just as the arrest of terrorist splinter groups in this country undoubtedly have.

Can we prevent them all? Most likely, not.

Will turning our backs on security, downplaying the terrorist threat or, returning to Clinton's 'just ignore them' stance aid us in preventing further attacks? Definitely, not.

prevent the terrorists from entering our country and make sure that the ones in the country are detained. If only there was an Act that helped do that...?

If we couldn't stop Hurricane Katrina and Rita from ravaging the Gulf Coast, how could we be in a similar position to stop a major terrorist attack from taking place?

The answer is:

WE CAN'T.

I am not sure, all I can think of is that we get info on all illegals already here, document it, they must check in like those on Probation do, hold down a job, and live where they state they do.

Then not allow others to come in without proper documentation, but 911 happened, so I am sure there is a clear cut, easy way to handle this.
