What is a way of saying someone is lying? At first I was thinking feet of clay but that does not work where I'm using it. I'm trying to say that someone's lies were discovered without using those words, so it sounds better.

Thanks for your answers so far, I'm acually writing a paper and don't want to say that he was lying too many times.

He is not telling the truth. Don't believe everything he says. He is pulling the wool over the sheep's eyes. That's all I can think of...

One of my favorite for years: "If he told me it was raining, I'd go to the window and stick my hand out to check."

Or, a variation on an old lawyer joke: "How can you tell when he's lying? His lips are moving."

These will work well--no lie!!

By the way, "feet of clay" doesn't at all necessarily indicate a liar. It is simply someone, typically famous or at least notable, who you initially think has more integrity, character, wherewithal . . . whatever, than he or she winds up having. In other words, their flaws are not immediately apparent from the get-go.

Or you could be really euphemistic and suggest that he was less than honest.

Feet of clay refer to someone well-respected who turns out to have serious character flaws. They're not as perfect as their public image would have you believe.
