What you are looking for is "Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition with SP2 - Retail Edition". If you buy a piece of hardware from some vendors, they'll allow you to purchase the "OEM" version instead of "Retail" and you'll save money (depending what hardware you purchase). If you have a previous version of a Microsoft operating system you could consider an "Upgrade" version of XP but I prefer a clean install when working with the operating system.

A quick check of NewEgg.com shows they offer the Retail version for $194.99. The second link shows you can buy the OEM version for $91.24 (this particular link doesn't say what sort of hardware must be purchased but you'll often find that they will get around it by shipping you a dead hard drive that someone else returned - MS apparently didn't say that the hardware had to be in working order so companies get through the loophole and don't have to charge you for that hardware).
