When you prep them for a show, you usually clip out any white on the face like a blaze or star, clip off any hair underneath the face and then using a Bic razor, remove all hair from nostril and eyes. Ears are usually clipped too. This gives them a sleeker profile and then you grease up their face with either baby oil or as I do, Vaseline. The main body of the horse can then be done with Pepe spray. Bic razors are used for the muzzle and eye because it cuts closer than a pair of big clippers

Believe it or not, it's baby oil.
Arabians (and hackney ponies) are clipped using several different sized blades on their faces, especially around their eyes, as the sterotypical Arab should have a noticeably dished face with very large pronounced eyes. In competition, stallion photos, and sale ads, the horses are meticulously clipped to draw out these features, and then baby oil is applied fairly liberally to help accentuate the horse and literally make it shine.

I showed Arabians and a lot of them have dark around their eyes and they do get clipped for shows or pictures. There is also this stuff that is called high gloss that you put around their eyes, it is like and shinny gel. They also have it in black which helps make the eyes really stand out. Baby oil attracts dust and then there face looks dirty. This stuff just makes their faces shinny.

its natural...well maybe not for the horse. Usually people shave the horses coat until its all gone or a fine buzz so the skin shows through and it looks clean. For shows and stuff they use some kind of coat oil so the structure of the face is clearly visible and beautiful

The horses have a very light hair coat on their face, they put oil on their face and it makes the skin beneath (which is black) shine. No, its not natural its just oil, meant to make them look fancy.

hi i work at an arabian stud farm and it is something we put on there face we call it makeup on our yard, we trim their faces with mini clippers to make them smooth then apply the makeup, which is usually baby oil or vaseline, around their eyes and on their muzzle, we do this to show off their features better, i also use it on my hunters at home when showing them just adds the finishing touch!
have a look at our babies at www.georgianarabians.co.uk

That is an registered Arab without his face clipped and without baby oil. Please note he is of polish blood and they don't tend to show the concave profile to the same extent that the egyptian arabs do. He's also fat. If you need more info you can message or email me.
