They take an awful lot of work and need very special care. Please see

http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/Care/caresheet-red_ear_slider.htm

for complete care info. Basics are a 10 gallon sized tank for each 1 inch of shell length, a basking area to climb out of the water on, a basking lamp, thermometer to monitor basking temp (digital thermometer a must), a water heater, a water thermometer, a powerful water filter, a UVB bulb which must be within 12 inches of the basking area and changed every 6 months, and change the water very very very often. Feed a variety of foods in a separate tank to help keep things clean. Do not use plants or gravel in the tank. Gravel will cause fatal impactions.

My red eared sliders always ate earth worms out of the back yard....they loved to slice them up and eat them...It's quite fun to watch!! My turtles wouldn't ever eat the pellets, but they loved the worms and also the dried shrimps you can buy in little containers. I gave them the shrim as a treat. Good Luck!!

Iceberg lettuce doesn't offer much, nutritionally to turtles (or humans). Other leafed veggies like Romain lettuce and spinach are good, though -- make sure you give them a variety of foods, and be sure they get craploads of calcium.

I feed my Red-eared Slider:

salmon (cooked or raw), pink mice (pre-killed), earthworms, crickets, wax worms, mango, papaya, romaine, mustard greens.

As they get older they become less carnivorous and prefer more green matter in their diet.

I've had mine about five years. Started out about 1.25" long when its first owner gave it up. Now over 6" and going strong in a 75 gallon tank.

hell yea girl..lettuce is good for them. try picking some swamp grass...u can find it in ditches sometimes...its the real tall/big grass. they eat the roots....but as long as they r getting something to eat then they will be fine. also, if they are aquatic turtles, try feeding them those feeder gold fish.

You should give them slices of turkey theyll eat that or go to the store and buy worms, or you can get a terrarium for them with live worms for them to dig up.

you can try fruits, but mine are a big fan of them. The pellets are good, but since they aren't eating them then try live fish. I give mine goldfish (but you can also try guppies), this gives them food and exercise they need chasing them around. Mine love it!

You could try shreded cheese. My nana lives by a lake and she feeds the fish cheese and the snappers go crazy when the cheese is around. lol. I bet your turtles would love it too.
