I'm looking for a candidate that will reduce the size of government, eliminate the deficit, and pay down a portion of the federal debt, so that the looming Social Security payouts won't bankrupt the country.

Fred Thompson is the closest that has a prayer of actually getting nominated. The President actually can't do ANY of what you say. Congress has to pass the appropriate laws.
As for social security, there is ONLY one long term fix. It is the ONE thing no one in congress will even hint at. We must announce that as of X date, NO ONE, including current recipients, will receive ANY social security payments. Everyone is expected to provide for their OWN retirement. As recently as 70 years ago, the vast majority of the population would have considered that the ONLY option.

I truly have not been following the yank election, yet asserting that Obama and McCain are socialists is far of the mark. I stay interior the united kingdom and we've a "supposedly" socialist government and neither of those 2 applicants look in any way close to to being socialist. they might have leanings in the direction of socialism, yet i do no longer think of any of them are remotely what everybody in Europe might know as a socialist.

I know it is not a Republican at this time, I do not see any Abe Lincolns in the bunch so you will have to look to the Democrats, the one with the least money is probably the most honest.
I am a Libertarian who believes as you do but I am also realistic and see only continuing national and international conflicts spiral out of control because of those Greedy Bastards in Government.
