Don't let her use any tampons. At her age it may interfere with her hymen. If she does not want to use the pads and only the thin liners then she probably has not had a real heavy period yet. If so then she will realize that she needs more coverage. Hun... you've done all you can do it looks like it.. i think its just one of those things that she will have to learn the hard way. Where she will be on her period and sits down and her dress or pants has a blood mark on it because she did not have an appropriate pad on. It takes a little getting used to and having to go through this at ten is not easy either. Hopefully she will see the value of a good pad and not be too embarassed if her clothes is stained in public.
I guess this is one of the tough love moments. But it'll work out in the end:)
All the Best

My condolences to your daughter. Ten is so young. I also hate the way pads feel. I have tried every brand under the sun. I prefer the thin pads that have the small wings on them, I believe they are Kotex, but am not sure. Once I discovered tampon, oh the freedom. Be honest with her, she is probably embarrassed and scared. Contrary to popular belief tampons do not harm the hymen. Buy her small tampons, for light days, tell her to try them, make sure she reads the instructions properly, follow the steps, maybe a little vaseline to help it slide in properly. Let her know it might hurt a bit, because it did me, and she's little. It will take her a while to get used to them, but she has to wear something. We don't have much of a choice. It's only for a week. Good luck to you both.

i would try the Always Ultra Thin with wings pads. they are a lot like the pantie liner but more absorbent. as far as the tampon goes you might have to wait until she is a little older so she understands exactly how they work and feel. once she is ready for those go with the Playtex gentle glide, they are more comfortable and she wont know they are there. that is from personal experience.

I love some of the new Maxi's out there. You can find short ones. They hold the fluid in really well and have very little escape. My 12 year old is not ready for tampons either. But we talked about it. I hate bulky bads. You cold go online to the companies like Always, Kotex and Stayfree and ask for samples for her to try. They used to send samples when you ask. Another bonus to the ultra thins is that it does not look like you are wearing one. Bulky pads can be seen with panti lines. Good luck.

she's probably too young for tampons. Panty liners are not absorbent enough for a beginner at menses.....she'll get used to the pads...ALWAYS brand has an Ultra thin maxi that feels like a liner! Good luck to her!

Always has a fine line of pads that will fit her just right. I always use Always because I'm the same way as your daughter. I never tried tampons either will never do because they do hurt. Explain to her that Always are made to fit the body just right.

Sadly the only choices are pads, tampons, or moon/diva cups. You'll have to google the cups since I'm not too familiar with them and I'm not too interested in them.
They do have some thin pads, but she'll still be changing them often. Perhaps explain to her how much better tampons would be, especially after she tries one or two... It may be uncomfortable the first time but it will get better, just explain to her your experiences.

You could try the lightest pads. But it might not be a bad idea to talk to your daughter and see what might be most comfortable for her. She has to wear something to keep the blood from getting all over her clothes. Work with her to find a solution.

Ive seen some padded panties, its an ecological thing, but that might work with her. Only thing tho, she would have be washing them REALLY often...but its up to her. And also, I think its normal that shes feeling this way, everyone felt this way when they got their period, its uncomfortable at the beginning buit we all get used to it.

You need to show her how to use tampons and let her know those don't hurt. Also take her to the store and let her pick out her own pads. Do not let her use pantyliners for this purpose and they will leak. Also consider showing her what a menstrual cup looks like and see if she would be interested in trying one of those.
