Even a everyday skill, something everyone should know, could benefit from having, but may not have it.

A complete mastery of social skills. They are imperative for every single interaction throughout the course of one's life. Whether for courtship, mingling at a social gathering, speaking to someone in a position of power, making friends, surviving a job interview, talking yourself out of a difficult situation etc.

Imagine how cool it would be to talk a cop out of giving you a ticket.

A combination of 2 things. Everyone should know how to type well & know how to do word processing. You can't do word processing without being a good typist, at least not professionally.

Some years ago, my youngest brother needed to find work. He had no real skills and unfortunately did not go to college. He asked me if there was any way he could get a job & still make decent money.

I told him to learn how to type first & get up to at least 80 wpm. He did that. Then I told him to work for a temp agency as a typist, to keep his typing skill going strong. Then, I told him to take a class in word processing, which he did. Then he switched his title at the temp agency, and they started sending him out on word processing assignments.

He now makes between $22 & $26 an hour, which is not bad for someonw with no college degree.

If you have those skills, you can work any hours you want and even put yourself through college. It's always something you can fall back on when you need to.

It comes in handy even at home, since most people have computers.

So, whether at home or on a job, that's the skill I think everyone could benefit from having.

Good written communication. Another skill would be typing/keyboarding. Good manners would be the third main skill needed to do well in today's society.

Typing/keyboarding.

Almost everyone would benefit by becoming proficient at this skill--especially in this computer/internet age.
