A family member smokes menthols and they practically stain whatever I wear over there. We get it, smoking is bad, don't waste our time. Is there something I can put in the house to cut down on the excessive odor?

No because the smoke attaches to floors, walls, carpeting, clothes, skin, hair........what have I left out? Only washing removes it. All these fancy sprays don't work. Fabreeze really doesn't truly eliminate the smell....better than the "room sanitizers" though. Air cleaners work if you could attach them to the smoker's mouth as they exhale but that still leaves the burning butt.

As a visitor to the house, wear washable clothes and afterwards strip and scrub.

Good HEPA air cleaners will help, but they are expensive. I'm not sure I'd mess with anything less. If this is an older relative, offer to clean the walls and drapes often, shampoo the carpeting to reduce the residue. Sorry, I hate the stuff too!

nope. Once someone smokes in the house the odor stays there. Be brave and tell them that menthol is bad. If this doesn't work just move out. If you don't have the money to stay at an apartment or another house you can rent a motel. If you can't rent a motel than just stay at friend's or another family member's house.

Place bowls of white vinegar around the house and place a slice of white bread in vinegar. Let it soak over night. The next day the odor should be gone. Sometimes you have to repeat the process.

Buy a HOLMES Smokeless ashtray . Purchase at Wall-Mart or
most Drug Stores.

not really - the smoker could try sitting by a fan that blows out a window I suppose.
