I don't think it's a good idea, because it further separates Americans from the U. S. Constitution which states only Gold & Silver will be used as money.
The 'conspiricy' theorists say that in 2012 the dollar will lose so much value that another form of money will have to be used, hence the Amero.
Patriots like Ron Paul feel if America simply returns to the Gold standard a monetary calimity may be avoided.

The E U is made up of small countries Who think if they pretend to be friends they can be a match for America. They haven't done it to date We can sit back and watch The C I A has said it well come apart in a few years and from what I see they are right

I think the integration of the Yen & Dollar that was rumored about 20 years ago (instead of 'dollars & cents' you'd've had 'dollars & yen') as part of a Pacific-Rim economic aliance, was probably a better idea, but it didn't happen, either.
