I know this question has been asked a thousand times before, but do you ever really get tired of answering it? Well, okay, actually I know you get tired of answering this question, but I don't care, I like asking it. Besides, it's an important issue and one that I feel should be repeatedly addressed because we get different answers from different people each time it's asked. The question's pretty straightforward: what do you think about torture? Is it wrong, right, or neither? If you agree that a nation/military should be able to torture its captives, why? And if you don't, why not? How do you defend your beliefs, and what is your reason for thinking how you do?

I think in most instances it is wrong. However, there are rare exceptions when it needs to be done to prevent loss of life. That should only be done when the country has good reason to believe that individual has information that it needs to save the lives.

Some may argue it's ineffective, that they'll tell you whatever you want to hear. That's not true. We've "tortured" info out of al-Quaeda captives that have helped us stop attacks.

I believe that captured terrorists are not the same as captured prisoners of war. The terrorists of today are not only a threat to the USA, but to all mankind. They care not who they kill or maim. They have no discretion, no humanity.

I also don't believe they should be tortured, and I do not believe they are being tortured at Guantanamo. But if valuable information can be obtained, via harsh interrogation methods to avert a suicide bombing, or another 9-11 (in the USA or anywhere) then I say go for it.

I would also like to applaud our security forces and the soldiers at Guantanamo for their service to our nation as well as mankind.

It's an ineffective way to extract information. If you torture somebody long enough, he'll tell you anything you want to hear whether it's true or not. Many American soldiers signed bogus confessions in Viet Nam because they had been tortured.

On the other hand... someone like... oh... Michael Vick. I wouldn't mind if he were staked to the ground and set upon by a few rabid pit-bulls.

We shouldn't torture.

Americans can't get mad over our own soldiers being tortured by terrorists or other countries if they get captured, since our government seems to condone torture. Because of this, its eye for an eye.

Torture should be illegal. Hopefully we will have some patriotic people willing to sacrifice themselves by breaking that law when necessary.
