Legalize it. It's just a contract like any other. If you want to make your marriage a religious one, then go to a minister of some sort, but not everyone cares about the religious aspect and, frankly, they shouldn't have to care. Marriage is the legal recognition of a union, not the religious one. When you file for a marriage certificate, you're not asking for god's permission.

I believe everyone has the right to be happy. Gay, bi or straight. Having gay marriage legal, through the state, will not affect anyone in anyway. If two loving, consenting adults of the same sex wish to marry then it is no ones business but their own. I think: the churches should have the right to decide to allow gay marriage in their church and I think gay marriage (by the state) should be free from religious rule. I mean after all, church and state are separate. For some reason, a group of people want to stop marriage equality. They believe that allowing two loving adults to marry will promote rape, child abuse, child molestation, animal abuse, animal rape ect. To me this is absurd and is nothing but an irrational fear against gays. Possibly because of their own denial.

I personally do not have anything against gay people, I know some extremely nice, caring individuals who are gay, and I like them.

I am in-between on the marriage issue for this reason - if we allow gays to marry, then the spouse is covered by the others health care. However if we have a man and woman who have been together, living together for 20 years, they don't qualify for the same benefits of health care because they are not married and California does not support the common law marriage.

The only big concern I have is that I believe our children would have to be educated to understand why some other child may have two mommies, or two daddies, so that it is clear to them it is a choice.

Legalize It! here is absolutely no reason not to allow it other than religious reasons. Since there is a separation of church and state, that means that there is NO reason to not allow it! We cannot force anyone to follow anyone Else's religion.

The homophobes need to get over it!

Funny thing is the most homophobic people I have met usually have gay tendencies and are probably closet gays. The reason they attack gays so much is because they are trying to not be one.

Marriage is holy matrimony, you are married in the eye's of God and usually in his church, remember it is Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. I have no problems with gay people, but God does according to the word's written about it. I believe that a marriage takes place between a man and a woman, period. If you are in a gay relationship that is fine, but you can't force others to give up their religious view on the matter, and expect to be treated equally when most of the world has some sort of religious belief's. I don't agree with the fact, that gay people can't get the same benefits, so a solution needs to happen to ensure that people of all walks of life, can receive equal benefits, but not through marriage.

I feel that when 2 people are in love and want to be together they should be allowed to get married. I can't imagine if someone told me it was wrong for me to be married to my (opposite sex) husband.
I think that any couple who is of sane mind and legal age should be allowed to be married in any and all states and should have every benefit that is allowed to married couples.
I have 2 teen girls and know their sexual orientation and still feel just as strong that if they wanted to be in a same sex marriage that I would give them my full blessings.
I think people a lot are narrow minded and fearful of change and they find anything that they don't understand wrong.
Love is love and there should be no law forbidding any couple to marry.

I'm against gay marriage and I think it should be universally banned because it undermines the sacredness of marriage between a man and a woman. Marriage has been defiled enough by divorce, adultery, and domestic violence. Do we really need to defile it more? How do we know that marriage between a man and woman is sacred? Reproduction. There's a reason straight couples can reproduce and gay couples can't. It's evidence that men and women are meant to be together. Please don't call me homophobic because I don't hate gay people and I would never hurt them. I just disagree with the gay lifestyle.

Legalize it. I feel that the church doesn't have to marry people of the same sex. The state on the otherhand should. Seriously, how does two guys or two women getting married affect me? Not one bit.

It should be allowed universally.

It is a human right. In my area they banned gay marriage and all same sex partner benefits. I live in one of the most LGBT friendly areas in the country and people lost their benefits in all sorts of horrible ways. I know someone whose partner had cancer and her benefits were stopped in the midst of her treatment.
