Today the angels faced off against the a's. The score was 5 to 3 going into the ninth (respectively). Francisco Rodriguez allowed three runs in the ninth, blowing the save and the angels still managed to pull out a win by scoring one in the bottom of the ninth. My question is, who gets the win? The box score reads that the winning pitcher is Brown, i assumed that was andrew brown who pitched in the seventh since there are no angels pitchers with the last name of Brown. How? The angels won. Does anyone have an explanation?

the WP next to Brown's name indicates Wild Pitch, hence the WP, also it has a W next to K-Rod's name indicating Win.

Francisco Rodriguez receives the Blown Save and the Win...

The box score reads, among other stats on the Oakland side,
Kennedy (L, 3-9)
WP: Brown

and for the Angels,
Shields (H, 23)
Rodriguez (BS, 3) (W, 4-2)

From top to bottom, Kennedy gets the Loss (L). Brown committed a Wild Pitch in the seventh inning. WP stands for Wild Pitch, not Winning Pitcher. Shields gets credit for a Hold, as when he began pitching, the Angels were in the lead, and held the score so that when he finished pitching, the Angels were still in the lead and he had not given up runs to Oakland so that they could tie the game. Rodriguez gets a Blown Save (BS) because he could not finish the game without allowing the A's to tie the game. Rodriguez gets the Win (W) because the Angels scored the winning run when he was the picher of record (threw the last pitch on defense).

Francisco Rodriguez gets the win because the Angels scored the run when Rodriguez was still the pitcher.

Here's what I would do. Check the box again by going to mlb.com. Then check mlb.com for the rules of the game. I thin the section involving pitchers and wins is Part 10, which deals with the official scorer, whose job is to decide who gets the win .

Fransico Rodreguez should get the win. He was the last pitcher to pitch when the game winning runs were scored.

he was on the mound and pitcher of record when the score changed and that is the reason for the win.
