Lyrics

I hate most instrumentals, opera and a lot of classical music because it either doesn't have lyrics or I can't understand them.

The lyrics give me the meaning of the song, and when I sing it to myself I sing the lyrics not the da, da, da, dum, or whatever. Without the lyrics the tune can mean anything, with the lyrics it can be directed in its meaning and it can be made to matter.

At Diane's funeral Elton John slightly changed the lyrics to Candle in the Wind to give it meaning for the funeral. Without that change it would just have been a nice song. He has refused to sell the new version because to him that would cheapen the meaning. This is how important the lyrics are to Elton John and normally he has someone else write his lyrics.

Look at how many instrumentals you hear on the radio or TV now days, very few. A TV show that wants a general appeal can use an instrumental piece for an introduction theme, but most modern shows use lyrics to direct the show and give the title sequence meaning.

In a movie we almost always here background music, but the music accents the action and helps to drive the movie. The action are the lyrics for the music. With the music alone it doesn't have as much meaning.

the lyrics, usually. what they say. mean, and how well the fly off the vocalists tongue. i also like music with a powerful instrumental piece in the background. combined, it's a double edged sword indeed.

Depends what kind of music. I like reggae, rnb and bassline/speed garage. When its reggae i like both.. rnb I like the words.. but basslines .. well thats what I love. The bassline and the way they drop it in.. puts me ina good mood. Makes me wanna shok out lol
