I just went for my annual pap smear and they called me telling me the results where abnormal. I asked what it meant and the said it could be the HBV virus but that they werent really sure. I am really nervous about it. Does anyone know what kind of sypmtoms i would have if it really was that. When you get an abnormal result for your pap smear does it really mean something seriously wrong? And if it is the HBV virus is there a cure for it? Would I still be able to get pregnant in the future? Should I stop having sex with my b/f and let him know cuz I might pass something on to him? Please if anyone has had abnormal pap smear or knows a little more please give me info on it

HPV...human papillomavirus is a sexually transmitted virus that can cause cervical cancer. My last pap came back abmormal as well and I was sent to have further testing called a colposcopy. Luckily for me I needed no further testing and was ordered to return in 6 months. I recently had my 6 month check-up and don't have to return for another year.

There are over 100 distinct strains of the human papillomavirus. 40 of these can be transmitted sexually. About a dozen of these can casue cervical cancer. This is why we do the PAP test every year.

To set your mind at ease, the majority of the time there is nothing to worry about. A lot of women have abnormal paps and they turn out to be nothing. In the same respect, at least 80% of women will have aquired genital HPV infection.

Here's a link to some helpful information. Educate yourself and try not to worry. If you have any questions feel free to e-mial me. Best wishes.

It might be HPV, but you wont know more till the doctor runs more test so try to stay calm till then. You might have to ask your mate if he has been with anyone without a condom but it can be just nothing some test do come back abnormal and it does not have to be hpv just get what needed to be done to make sure ok and good luck

I had one atypical pap, and the follow-up was abnormal. I had the colposcopy (which hurts like a beyotch, let me warn you), and that was normal. Had paps every six months for two years, and all of them were normal.

Talk to your doctor and ask her if it is okay to have sexual relations with your boyfriend. I don't recall being told not to have sex between my abnormal pap and the colposcopy, but that was over eight years ago.

It's called HPV. And no there are no cures, but it can be prevented. I had this happen to me when I was 18 due to a jerk boyfriend who failed to tell me he had it.

An abnormal pap can mean many things. I've had two, one was due to a bad bacterial infection and the other was due to HPV. There is not a lot to worry about with HPV because if caught early enough (in my case at least), it will go away on it's own.

Sadly, I had warts so I knew what it was, but since then, my pap tests have been very normal and the two other people i've been with since then, have not received any symptoms at all.

Good luck. I wouldn't worry too much about it though and you should stop having sex with your boyfriend for now and let him know. It's not fair to not tell someone because it could have been prevented.
