Is it “politics” that separates us, or is it a partisan thing?

Partisanship. It takes the worst elements of extreme views and tries to push them in your face.

Actually the two sides may be a long way apart on political views, but when an American is attacked or hurt outside the United States, or in a disaster situation, we never ask their politics, we roll up our sleeves and help them out. Once the danger is past, then we go to blows over the politics, I call that just Good ole sibling rivalry and it is good for a nation to question one another and argue their position vehemently. We may think that their positions don't change but could you imagine 40 years ago an interracial marriage in Georgia? Today, it is a very accepted norm.
