One of my friends is studying abroad in Japan right now, she said before she left that we're going to have to keep in touch through email (said it 3 times in 3 diff texts lol), a few days before she left I felt like she blew me off in hanging out because she only wants to be friends (I like her but she doesnt like me same way and I know this because she said she just wants to hang out as FRIENDS (in caps)). But we hung out the week before that and then we both got busy.

Anyways, I emailed her about 1.5 weeks ago (1 week after she got to Japan) to see how things are going there. The thing is, she hasn't initiated any emails to me since she has been there. She usually initiated text convos here in the US though.

If I email her after 1.5 weeks of no contact, would that look like I am chasing her? or something? Do you think she will laugh and be like "haha I knew he'd email me..." or something? Would it be nice to ask

You didn't mention how long she has been gone.
But if she just went recently, then give her some time to settle in. I wouldn't e-mail her back just yet. She will e-mail you when and if she wants to. If she doesn't then I would think that she is brushing you off, or could be she is just to busy at the moment. Wait for another month and e-mail her. If she doesn't respond then, I would forget about it.
