He sold arms to the Iranians in order to have the hostages released. Yeah, Oh Ronnie was a GREAT President and now we have George beating his chest. Everywhere you turn it's another Republican FU.

The other answers given are good as far they go. I don't know if North's actions have any relevance to Iran today, though I wouldn't rule out some covert goings on dating from then.
What is more important, is the spectrum that surrounds the Iran Contra hearings. This is one of the few times that a conspiracy broke surface and got validated in court. The Christic Institute would be a good thing to look at, their case got thrown out, probably a covert ops owned judge.
Ed Meese was running the Justice Department back then as I recall, and he was the one who was at fault in the INSLAW scandal, another one that got to court. Bouncing from one appeal to another, alternately winning and being overturned, I don't know the final status of the lawsuit against the Justice Department, for pirating the promis software, reengineering a backdoor into it, and a chip capable of sending signals to a satellite or more locally positioned receiver.
This set up meant that when Meese, who represented not only the USA but the whole shadow government and CIA=Wall Street ergo the whole scene is rogue in intent from day one
scene, would sell this to a foreign government, it was possible to get at everything they were linking promis to.
Ibn Laden is believed by some to have had a copy of this, since his family was in cahoots with Bush, and may well have been able to thwart security and find out what was needed to get things done at the Twin Towers.
Regarding the Twin Towers, it has been pointed out that the planes can't be that easily controlled by minimally trained pilots and might have had an onboard convert to drone program running them. A kind of collaboration between elements of our government and the Ibn Laden family and others who gained in the rash of strange stock maneuvers, that were indicative of a lot of prior knowledge, would be reasonable to assume, since this whole thing makes money for the military industrial complex that the ex prez Eisenhower warned us against.
That should give you a lot to look into.
Google "Danny Casolaro" and look at the URL
http://www.fromthewilderness.com or the old
http://www.copvcia.com site and on the left side you should find reference to promis and INSLAW.

He was a key figure in the "Iran-Contra" hearings. That was a complicated disaster having to do with selling weapons to Iran to pay for fighting the Drug War in Central America.
Nothing he did has any bearing on Iran today.
Was that really almost 20 years ago? My, how the time flies.....

Are you kidding me? Google iran-Contra. Hint: selling arms to one country for cash to support terrorists in another country.
Another of the greatest hits of the CIA.
He was a Lt. Coloniel in the US Army
