Well their diet should be about 20% plants, including vegetables and fruits like squash, green beans, carrots, parsley, dandelion greens, mango, raspberries, and cantaloupe. The remaining 80% of the diet should be meaty items such as insects and pinkie mice that you can buy bought at pet stores . They should be fed three to five times per week.

What everyone has said has been right on. I keep a consistent salad in my girls cage all day and give her crickets every other day and sometimes meal worms as a treat. Pinkies are ok once every 2-3 weeks because of the protein and calcium they offer, but ONLY start feeding them this when they are adults. Also it might only be my beardy, but she will only eat crunchy things. She will not touch bananas or soggy greens. Just keep that in mind because it might be a shared trait.

Both of the previous answers gave you excellent information. The only thing I would add is that fruits and veggies high in beta carotene will really bring out a beardies color. Any fruit of vegetable that is red, yellow, or orange and dark green leafy vegetables are all rich in beta carotene. Do avoid feeding spinach, however, because it contains an enzyme that blocks calcium absorption. You might also want to invest in a vitamin supplement dust to use once a week.

This site has an excellent diet advice area. You can feed superworms, phoenix worms, roaches (not wild), and a fresh salad daily. Pinky mice are not necessary and are too high in fat. They may also cause impactions. Mealworms are not recommended for beardies as the chitin is too hard to digest. Also check out the care sheets and forums at

Pinkie mice can be fed occasionally if your dragon is a full grown adult. They are pretty high in fat and your dragon may have some problems digesting it.

Dragons should be fed a healthy salad everyday consisting of a variety of greens such as collard greens, mustard greens, dandelion, escarole, or bok choy to name a few.

A few insects that can be fed to an adult dragon are superworms, hornworms, butterworms, silkworms, or phoenix worms.
