having issues with a Netgear Wireless Router (WPNT834) connecting to the internet via Motorola Surfboard 5100 modem on PennTeleData (PTD) Internet service. The desktop & laptop connect to the router, but the modem does not see the router & vise versa. Connecting the desktop or laptop to the modem directly does connect to the internet successfully. Neither PTD nor NEtgear will help as they direct one to the other as "not their issue"... Thanks in advance!

A couple of things to try. With the network cable connected from modem to router, do a reset with a paperclip. Hold the button for at least 10 seconds. Pull the power plug of the router for a few seconds. After it comes up connect the desktop and get into the router. In Adminstrator check status for IP address, Subnet Mask, Gateway, and DNS entries. If not there, try installing a crossover cable between modem and router. This is sometimes a problem with the Motorola to routers.

99% of all broadband modems have an ethernet port on them. Use that port to connect it to your router. If yours doesn't have this, then you cant use it with your router.

I think you need to call Motorola to put the modem in (what is called) bridge mode. That should fix the problem.
