Teardrop Explodes
Mighty Wah
Echo & The Bunnymen

and if you include Birkenhead, the very wonderful Half Man Half Biscuit.

The KLF/The Jams
Lightning Seeds
Echo & The Bunnymen
Carcass
The Boo Radleys (Merseyside)
The Wild Swans
Cast
Flock of Seagulls
and recently, Candie Payne

KLF were definitely better than the Beatles, so I have no qualms about leaving them out. In fact a few of these bands are better than The Beatles.

The Wombats.

I Think The Beatles certainley should be credited for creating the mould, but I dont really know if its such a good thing, the verse chorus pattern which pretty much laid out the structure of pop music for the next 50 years.

It has to be Half Man Half Biscuit. With lyrics that no other band in history has ever come close to.
Echo & The Bunnymen would come a close second though.

Gerry & the Pacemakers.

The Beatles - I saw them before they were famous; they attended a local town fete. The spot they played on has now become the car park for a municipal golf course.
