Question is unclear but reading it as:-
(1/2) x + 5 / 7 = 2 / 3 (which is clear!)
Multiply by 42:-
21 x + 30 = 28
21 x = - 2
x = - 2 / 21

1/2x + 5/7 = 2/3
21 + 6x = 14x
21 = 14x - 6x
21 = 8x
21/8 = x
2 5/8 = x

1/2x + 5/7 = 2/3
1/2x = 2/3 - 5/7 = 14/21 - 15/21 = -1/21
2x = -21
x = - 10.5

-1/21 + 15/21 = 14/21

(1/2)x + 5/7= 2/3

You want x with a coefficient of 1. What do you multiply 1/2 by to get 1? Hint: Try 2.

So multiply both sides by 2
x +10/7 = 4/3

Now add -10/7 to both sides
x=4/3 - 10/7

Doing the arithmetic...
x = 28/21 - 30/21
. . = -2/21

But you might want to check my arithmetic.

BUT: If you mean 1/(2x) + 5/7= 2/3,

Multiply both sides by 2x
1 + 10x/7=4x/3

Now both sides by 21
21+30x=28x

Add -21-28x to both sides
2x= -21
x= -21/2
