I don't like it at ALL, Hon.
Our clothing, appliances, and every other material thing we purchase must bear the name of the country in which it was manufactured, but there's no way to know where the stuff that we actually put into our BODIES is from. I believe that most Americans would completely support a law requiring the country of origin to be named on our food packaging, so that we as consumers can make an informed choice to not purchase edible products from China if we don't wish to.
Then again, maybe that's why it's NOT a law; if we knew, the corporations selling these products might actually have to pay a few nickels more for made-in-America products.

No, and no.

I didn't lose a dog to the industrial chemical that was put into dog food that was made in China, but a lot of people did. And the FDA announced last week that the need to cut the number of testing labs to save money. Yet another example that the current administration has its head up a very dark and smelly place and is blind to reality.

The USDA has been behind food inspection for a long time and last year's E Coli outbreaks are a symptom of it. As the population increases and as we get our food from more sources we need more inspectors to check it out. I don't think a Chinese official planned on poisoning so much dog food that was used in the US, but they didn't care that much about it either. After all the dog isn't a family member of many very Chinese families. Most Americans who had a pet fall prey to that poisoning problem felt just as bad as if their child was the victim.

When most of our food was grown, processed and used in the US you knew who grew it, where it was grown, and he had something at stake. After all his family could buy that tainted food. But, what has happened in China? We know where the poison material came from, we know that it is a chemical that is used in industry and that it is not in any way shape or form meant to be put into food. Yet somehow it was and we have done nothing to find out why or to prevent it from happening again. If the US government really cared about the national food supply they would have held China responsible or at least required that China investigate the matter. Has that happened, I don’t' know, I haven't heard anything about it?

My dogs died from poisoned Wheat Gluten

My kid has liver damage from poisoned toothpaste sweetener

I ate poisoned peanut butter, spinach and ground beef and had to be hospitalized for 7 weeks

I think the inspections are going just fine Internationally and Domestic

Nothing like paying for poisoned products

Yum!

What if the poisoned products were a test run to see how easily the population could be killed by staged attack.

You would think that after 9/11, everything would be done to protect the supply line that goes in to our homes. Anyone remember Anthrax

Now when they decide to poison my Cheetos and Tin Foil supply - then I am going to be really pissed off!

I don't think so and i really wish more of our food was labled as to it's origin and growing and processing mor of our own food! What we have been seeing on television is down right scarry! there are not enough inspectors and not enough of our foods being inspected, let alone tested for pathogens.

It's not easy checking all of the food imports, which have dramatically increased since 2000.
Only about 1% of it is inspected.

And no. Our food is NOT safe.
We just like to think it is.

We'd have a much easier time of it if the stuff was coming from here, but the business community has decided we don't have the right to know where our food is coming from and what condition it's in, as long as it's putting money in "their" pocket.

I'm worried by food standards here in the UK and ours are a lot higher than the USA. I think there's a real problem.

Do you know anyone who has been affected? I would bet you, like most people don't. It's certainly something that needs to be addressed but let's hold off on the paranoia.
