I'm not nuts about the idea, because the kids get a month long break and they forget everything and this happens 4 times a year. I'd rather they had one break when they forget everything and have them start anew in the fall. Therefore, I think there's less time spent reviewing and more time spent learning on the 9-month plan.
I'm not a working mom, so it doesn't affect me, but I can understand why lots of folks would have an easier time day-care wise with year round schools. On the other hand, my kids are old enough to have summer jobs, and I like that a lot. Not because they're earning $$, but because they are getting lessons in maturity, responsibility, etc. Three month summers work for me.

I'm curious to hear from people in other countries. I know in other countries they do year-round schooling (6 weeks on, 6 weeks off or something like that). One of my colleagues just told me about something she read about how kids lose 60% of what they learned the previous year over the summer. That's an incredibly daunting number! I wonder what the stats truly are for year-round schooling. I wouldn't be able to make a decision without knowing that information first.

I totally disagree. Even though students have a lot of breaks during the year it is realy good for them because they have to go through all that learning and tests and etc. Parents dont fully understand what their children have to go through because the curriculum keeps getting harder and harder each year. Its better to leave it like it is because that way students can have a really long break to relax and dont worry about anything. It doesnt matter if they are little kids they are still going through a lot.

... no one is only blaming the guns... tell me ONE PERSON that said "let lanza go and take away the guns"... lol... WHY DO YOU LIE? in fact, I think it's QUITE A BIT EASIER to just totally blame it all on Lanza and just ignore any other problem that we have... you don't have to think about it... and you get to keep on doing whatever you want... "just that one guy"... it's borderline childlike... yeah, you're making the "hard decision" there... lol... what a joke... by the way, me personally, I don't want to ban all guns.... don't even know if I want to ban assault weapons... but I would like to have a discussion about the pros and cons... instead of just taking the easy way out and only blaming the guy who did it and ignoring the why and how... EDIT: we banned drugs because they caused more harm than good... I can see that... do certain guns also fall into this category? fully auto weapons are already banned, so most people seem to think so, at least in that category... should that be included to include other guns? maybe? maybe not... I don't think there's a lot that "easy" about that discussion EDTI2: how does blindly blaming the guy and only the guy actually fix anything? lol... do you guys even think about what you are saying?

I would fully support year round schooling for my (future) kids. I mean, they lose so much taking a 3 month break. I'd rather have them take periodic breaks. Most parents don't encourage their kids to keep learning during their time off, so shortening any one period of vacation would certainly be beneficial.

I think it would work with a breaks spread out thru the year. i would include Saturdays as well. as the breaks would shorten each semester.
