It's an older car (84) and i've tried staples and spray-on glue. i can't afford to replace it and the stuff underneath comes off in tiny grains when there's airflow (can't be good to inhale!). Anyone have any luck actually getting their back up? It's halfway down and i can't see out the back; it's smacking my head while i'm sitting and driving me crazy!

Pull the headliner out of the car. Pull the fabric off where it is bad. Then spray contact cement on the cardboard and reapply the fabric and let dry. Reinstall the headliner.

If you don't want to do that, then just thumb tack the headliner back up to keep it out of your field of view. It won't look too good, but it will be safer. Good luck.

Do you have any idea how cheap a new headliner is?

Mine was $126 for the materials, and the upholsterer didn't charge that much because it's a pretty speedy job to DO RIGHT.

Try straight pins pushed in at an angle.

pretty much a lost cause.... either pull it down and out or a bunch of thumbtacks to keep it off your head and vision.. or have it redone as mentioned
