I'd say "c." "Paternalism" means patriarchy. Patriarchy means a society that treats it's citizens like a father does his children.

I would choose "C" for this reason: "Oxford Dictionary of Current English", Third Edition defines "paternalism" as "Protective control but restricting freedom and responsibilities." All of the other choices have more of "the scale," in one direction or the other, when comparing them to the paternalism definition, leaning heavily one way. When reading this choice, it doesn't.

B, because it's an individuals attempt to determine their fate and the disposition of property to spare their children the misery of whether or not a parent needs resuscitation in the case of the first example (determining fate) and the disposition of their property to avoid their children fighting over what they are due from inheritance .
