.....strangers never say hello to each other anymore, even at, like, 5 in the morning when everyone used to communicate. The only chance you have is other dog walkers, they will speak to each other!
I think we should have a 'NATIONAL SAY HELLO TO EVERYBODY' day - what do you think?

Yes good idea - why not?!
And I do say hello if I catch another person's eye!
It is sad but true that lots of people avoid eye contact though!

I know that many people will disagree with me on this, but that's because they simply don't understand. The reason society is becoming less tolerant is one of war, or rather the build up to it, which can take many years! We are currently experiencing recession after recession. The normal capitalist cycle of boom - bust has just become one long bust (recession). This happens in this society, it's how it works. The only way to restore the boom aspect of capitalism is to create room for expansion, both of work and population. Basically, this is done by killing a lot of people and destroying a lot of property; war! The wars have already started, it's Bush this time instead of Hitler; because it's 'exactly' the same cycle. The evidence that Bush has for starting the two wars, that England is shamefully supporting, is so weak that it wouldn't even make it to trial in a court of law. A bit of research will prove to you that the official 9/11 story is a pack of lies that is easily proved as such. And that is the justififaction that Bush is using for having his enormous war machine kill hundreds of thousands of completely innocent children in Iraq and Afghanistan. Children are dying in the most awful ways imaginable in wars that should not be happening.

It is simply the capitalist cycle. People are becoming awful towards one another so divisions are easier to create and blame easier to apportion and wars easier to start. 7/7, there were no bodies, they could have blamed anyone!! The video evidence simply cannot be trusted, they can do anything they want of video now. 9/11, most of the hijakers, agian 'proved' to be on the planes with video evidence, have been found alive and well all over the planet. And all three of those buildings WOULD NOT have collapsed, even after a direct hit from an airplane.

We are being convinced of the need for war by the media. That's why people are no longer friendly towards one another. Capitalism is about to be regenerated by the third world war. You won't hear that on the news.

Yep, those days are long gone. Don't even think it's worth trying, so forget the say hello day thing. Down the drain, that's where we've gone. And we've let them do it to us. So goodbye, I'm off to hang myself now. Bye cruel world

Then maybe I'll come back again born in 1947, so I can grow up in London of the 60's. When everyone spoke to everyone, people knew their neighbours. Yup, the good old days.

you haven't been to the beach or the boardwalk in Southern Cal much have you

~ every stranger and tourist is your best friend, and everyone says hello, or wants to play volley ball, or asks how the surf is today

however, Arizona is much like you say ... no one on the street even acknowledges your existence, let alone say "hello"

so I think it has somewhat to do with where you are

As for the first (main ) question, I think the appropriate question is 'when did we', and not 'are we'.

As for the second question: Nah, I don't think that will work.

Everyone is afraid of everyone else. Either that, or they are too self-absorbed to be friendly.
