I'm guessing that the GS is supercharged. I could Google it, but I'm too lazy.
Short answer, if it is supercharged, you MUST run premium gas, 93 Octane or better, or you could be in for a world of expensive repairs.

Premium YES!!!!! 10 gal of gas is only $2 more for Premium than regular. What is $2? And the 3800 is just a 350 with the back 2 cyl missing. I put over 245,000 on a 3800 engine and it still didn't use any oil. Indy cars ran this set up and at over 220 mph qualifying won the race

If the vehicle calls for premium unleaded then stick to it. How much extra does it cost to fill the tank anyway? If you have a 15 gallon tank at .20 cents per gallon more then thats 3.00 dollars per tank. If your filling it once a week that 168.00 dollars a year. Isn't it worth 168.00 dollars a year to have the peace of mind that the internal parts in your engine are getting whats required and not have to look at an expensive repair bill down the road because the wrong fuel was being used.

Octane really means length of time to burn. Higher octane fuel is required for higher compression engines. Your owner's manual will say what octane is required but if your compression ratio is about 9/1 or less, 87 octane fuel will work fine. Valve pinging is a sign that your fuel's octane is too low, but you could add a bottle of octane booster if that happens.

I'd run 2-3 tanks of it to see. Some cars handle the ;ower octane of regular better than others. If it pings under accelleration, you need to go back up to the higher octane fuel.

most likely, but if you have been using premium, i would switch to middle grade first for a few tanks and see how it does, then go to regular unleaded. Like said earlier, if it pings or starts running rough, swith back to a higher grade.

If the manufactor requires premium you should use it or you will pay down the road in engine problems.
