0.002 divided by 0.662
move the decimals over so that the number is 2 divided by 662.
I get 0.0030021 when do this problem. 2000 - 1986 = 14. add two 0s the top and to the 14.

But when I do this on a calculator I get 0.003021.

Why is the calculator missing a zero?

662 into 2

becomes 662 into 2.000, goes 3 times which is 1.986, leaving 0.014

To continue dividing, you will need to bring down an additional zero, making it 0.0140 that you are trying to divide by 662. Obviously, 662 does not go into 140, so place a zero next to your 3 in your quotient.

Bring down another zero making it 0.01400. 662 can go into 1400 twice, so the 2 should go next to the zero in your answer, making it 302.

Somehow you slipped in an extra zero.

The calculator isn't.

.002/.662 = 2/662

both are equal to .00302...

The calculator is correct. You can rely on calculators to do division correctly (to as many digits as they report).

It is you who have the erroneous answer. You added an extra zero where one should not be.
