I'm taking care of a pool for the summer. I've been taking pretty good care of it, but I'm not sure how to recognize algae.

How does it look, where does it grow, etc? Thanks.

As the water warms with the season, the chances of getting either green or yellow algae increases. You'll first notice the bottom and sides are a bit slippery--obviously you need to be in the pool often to notice the difference. When that happens, get to it PRONTO. Check the pH and chlorine level if that's what you are using. Could be you just need to "shock" with extra chemical, vacuum and sweep and of course filter, filter, filter. That usually does it. If you stay on top of things, algaecides aren't necessary.....the less chemicals you put in the pool, the better for you. The most important part of the pool is the filter........use it often.

It is usually green, and grows both in the water and on the sides of the pool walls. Testing your water weekly, and adding the proper chemicals when necessary will prevent algae from growing in your pool.

You really need a pool water testing kit and you should test it regularly. That will tell you what chemicals need to be added. It's not something you can really see well until it gets way out of control. By the time you can see it, it is so far gone you'll have to dump loads of chemicals in and shock it. Test the water every other day with the kit the owner should have provided you.

I agree with testing the water. It's really simple and will let you know if the chemicals are unbalanced. The pool test kit can be found anywhere like Home Depot or Wal-Mart even. They are cheap and easy to use and they come with chemicals to add to the pool to keep it balanced.

you can keep down the algae ,on a day to day basics,by using a pole brush(in the morning) and just sweeping.start at the sides,an brush towards the drain.check the PH level, every 2 days ,or so,depends on the amount of swimmers, from day to day.
some people pee in the pool.,,not cool.makes your job harder.ya see slime,,tis time to work..
