They were actually KNOWN as a dirty team....it's their style of play (old school hockey). When they did team profiles of the 4 semifinalists all the analysts called them dirty as well, but that's just their style.

I am not an Anaheim fan, but I just noticed something. That isn't dirty, it's HOCKEY!!! Hockey is a tuff sport, and if this team was around thirty years ago, then they would be like angels. Hockey has gotten so anti physical, that when a team finally plays with grit, and gets under peoples skin people say they are dirty. Well, you are right, and I wish every team was like them. Then, maybe hockey would be more popular. I like a good fight, hit, amazing save just as much if not more than a goal, most goals these days are dirty anyway not amazing. I love amazing goals, but all the sticks, and bodies that fly by on the way, and obstacles the player has to go by makes the goals so much prettier, the NHL nowadays makes it pretty hard to play defense, you have to lay a perfect shoulder check, but not too hard, or you will get a penalty for roughing. Let the players play. If a forward can take the puck to the net, jump over a stick, deke around a 6'4" 220 pound beast of a defensmen, and still put the puck up on the top shelf with the cookie jar, knocking the water bottle into the glass in the process, then hey, maybe hockey would be fun again, until then I think I'll watch some cricket.

If you are talking about the cup finals against the Sens, they are not cheaters nor play "dirty".
They play a very physical game that Ottawa was not able to match, they got under the Sens skin. As far as talent is concerned, Ottawa has it hands down, but they weren't able to compose with the physical play due to the lack of size on the Ottawa roster. Having kept Chara instead of Redden would've definitely helped.
Anaheim pounded them in the boards and finished their checks until the Sens made mistakes and turned over the puck. They played the way Ottawa played against the Pens, Devils and Sabres before getting beat at their own game by Anaheim.
Let's face it, Bryan Murray put together a cup winning team while in Anaheim and Burke came in to make a couple of tweaks to make them even better. They have size, toughness, scoring and good goaltending. It's called Canadian style hockey.

They are not "dirty". What happened in the final is very simple to understand if you know anything about hockey. The Ducks won because they were permitted to hold up The Sens players that DIDN'T have the puck. This is not the Ducks fault but the leagues doing. The rules are there and they weren't called. I think the Ducks would have still won but it should have gone to 7 games.

Man the ducks won fair and square but if you think what you seen from the ducks was cheap and dirty then man you got another thing coming. On February 2nd 2008 the ducks will face the flyers. yes most likely the flyers are going to lose but if they want a fight they went to the right place. If the flyers are going to play Steve Downie then the ducks might just get what they were looking for. It is going to be a good game watch it and you will see what happens when they screw with him.

Oh, did somebody get hurt cause the Ducks played some tough hard nosed hockey?
Give me a break. This isn't Figure Skating. The Ducks are a physical team, bordering on dirty, but the way to overcome it is to dish it back when you play them, or make them pay when they spend time in the penalty box and score some power play goals.

The most penalized team in the league? Yes. (Ha, ha. Great positioning on my part. with the previous answer.) They had the most penalties all year. And a statistic that often goes with it, other teams got their most penalties when playing against them. Why? Because they are dirty. Doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it. I did go to a playoff game against them realizing I might be watching the Stanley Cup champs when they still were 10 wins away. But never seen so many cheap shots followed by a dive on the retaliation. I remember Selene skating behind a player then diving and a penalty called for obstruction. The 2 players didn't touch, and it was clear from out angle.

lmao. they won the cup, get over it! i as a hawks fan get over my team not makin the playoffs every year lol.
they are a very agressive team yes. Cheaters? no, unless they are taking steriods (extremly unlikely) or something. Play dirty? i wouldnt call it dirty. a ocasional cheap shot here and there, but no serious problem. They are a hard hitting team which won them the cup. they were so good, not even the 'new' NHL could stop them. i am actually quite impressed

No. They fought for what they wanted. They got it. They didn't fight dirty. I watched every game, even though my team didn't make it, obviously. But they played just as fair as the next team did. They just wanted the Cup more.

I personally have never liked the Ducks, but they won the Cup didn't they? I see no reason why it would be bad to have an aggressive game, it gets the other team off of their game. That's what happened to Ottawa.
