A question for those who claim homosexuality is not a choice...?

There is a popular claim now that homosexuality is an innate or natural condition in individuals, perhaps even determined at birth. My question to those who subscribe to this is as follows: What should be done with pedophiles and those convicted of bestiality? If sexual inclination is predetermined and natural and cant be changed, then these people are acting on their natural impulses and will continue to do so. How do you think such individuals should be handled.

This is a difficult question, because unlike homosexuality, pedophilia and bestiality involve real victims. The partners are not capable of giving consent.

I provide some treatment for these individuals, although I have been peripheral in most cases. The issues that are necessary to deal with are the realization that they are harming someone. The cognitive dissonance set up by many pedophiles in which they convince themselves that they are doing their victims some good is difficult to overcome. It requires relatively intensive group treatment, and even then the recidivism rate can be high.

There are some who are willing to undergo some medical treatment by taking such drugs as depo-provera to reduce the chance of recidivism. These are usually people who are aware on one hand of the injury they have caused and could cause again, but simultaneously, they find their sex drive too intense to keep consistently reined in.

The lucky ones are those who can feel a certain amount of pleasure and comradeship with an adult partner. Given proper support and ongoing monitoring, these people are often able to go about living relatively normal lives. Those who are drawn only to children (or animals) need even higher levels of support, because there is not a loving partner whom they can count on and who depends on them. A relapse prevention plan would involve significant social support and filling free time with rewarding and engaging activities.

Homosexuality isn't a choice. Actions stemming from homosexual inclinations are. Perhaps inclinations towards bestiality and pedophilia ARE innate. Again the choice to perform in such acts IS a choice. The basic moral premise against both acts is that the victim is deemed incapable of making a valid choice and/or communicating it. Actions stemming from homosexual inclinations are between two consenting adults. And don't say that gay people rape little boys... Even in the rare cases where it's true, the moral issue is with the pedophilia. Much like if a straight man raped a little girl.

Point being there's nothing morally wrong with homosexuality; pedophilial and bestial acts are ethically wrong due to inability to provide consent.

First off, how can you possible compare pedophilia and bestiality with homosexuality? Those who prey upon CHILDREN and ANIMALS are not acting on impulses that are even in the same universe as "natural". These are sick people who want to control and violate those who don't have a choice in the matter. Quite different from ADULTS who are sexually attracted to other ADULTS of the same sex.

I know that homosexuality spans the mammal population at just about the same percentage as humans. Interesting. Yes, there are gay and lesbian tigers and lions and bears, Dorothy.

Join the 21st Century, homosexuality is not an illness. Those who prey on the helpless are sick and should be locked up until it can be proven without even a shred of doubt that they will not hurt another child or animal.

Homosexuality and the problem of pedophiles are two completly different things.

Homosexuals does not harm the civil right or the free will of another member of the society by being homosexuals. We live in relationships, just like heterosexuals. Both parties benefit from this relationship.

Pedophiles and those convicted of bestiality harm innocent people/animals. Only they get pleasure from what they are doing, the other party is suffering, and many times becomes handicapped on many areas of life because of what the pedophile has done with him/her.

I feel pity for these ill people, because they can only fulfill their desires in this harmful way.

But I am proud that I am gay. I do not harm the civil right or free will of another human being by loving my boyfriend.

I think the only answerer who really got the point of the question was Jessica M. The point of the question was if sexual preference is truly not a choice, what should be done about those who inately prefer children. The answer is they should be locked away so that they can not harm anyone who has yet to reach the age of informed consent. I don't think the question writer meant any comparison between glbt's and pedophiles other than, they have no choice as to their preference.

Pedophiles and people who have sex with animals do damage to the children and to the animals because children and animals can't give consent. It's always rape.

When 2 gay men have sex, nobody is hurt. They are both adults who consent to share sex with the partner of their choice. Because it's consensual, it's love-making, not rape.

Pedophiles and people having sex with animals should be put in places where they can't hurt children/animals with their perversion.

Gay people should be left alone to make their own consensual decisions as free, American adults. It's very ignorant to compare gay adults with pedophiles and bestiality. Str8 people have much more in common with pedophiles than gay people since 99% of all child molestation happens between a young girl and an older male relative.

And no, homosexuality is not a choice. I was born gay and I had no choice in that. The only choice I had was whether or not to lie about it.

There is no correlation between homosexuality and bestiality or pedophilia. People who are pedophiles have not matured sexually and are attracted to children; it is not a homosexual or heterosexual issue.. People who participate in bestiality have a different issue. I advise you do some research on the subject.

well,being as they actually harm something in the process,i say keep them away from everyone and find a medicine to cure them.this is obviously a mental problem that its brain chemical related,and they have serious issues. the animals and the children dont deserve to be victims. if we could put forth effort to find a medicine that they could take to not be so messed up then we wouldint have this problem. its like providing medicine for depression,bipolar,etc. its an imbalance of something that needs to be cured because they are harming others.
i seriously think this is a mental disorder that could someday be cured with modern medicine.

Well, considering pedophilia is usually something caused by past abuse to the pedophile as a child, I wouldn't say that the pedophile was born that way.

Beastiality is considered wrong because the animals can't consent.

It is ridiculous that you compare a homosexual with a pedophile.The only difference between a heterosexual and a homosexual is the type of sex they prefer. Why are people so concerned with everyone elses lives? Living your own life is hard enough so why try to make someone elses harder than it already is? Give it up already.
