I love those slopes, no more dings in my rims when I am "accidently" hitting the sidewalk with my car trying to parallel park!

I've been studying this phenomenon for years now... and apparently it's all a conspiracy initiated by skateboard-toting 12 year-olds. Amazing what kids can accomplish when they can tear themselves away from the TV.
The relative painlessness of a modern-day kicking-to-the-curb is just a pleasant side effect... but it's a double-edged sword of course... if' you're kicked to the curb during the hours of 3 and 5 PM, you're likely to be mistaken for a cushy landing mat for some spectacular stunts.

Ok obviously I live in a city behind the times. It still hurts like hell to get kicked to the curb here in my town.

That's probably the reason. I'm sure the persons doing the kicking, now avoid all the street corners.
