i think it's the adult/parent stage. Especially when the child are just starting their own lives, and are discovering their ability to realize how different they actually are from their parents, and the drastic change in lifestyle that comes with it.

I'm 47 and my neice is 16 and it is giant.
My mom is 65 and the gap is just as big.
The problem is you have different perspectives of life as you live it more.
Teenagers have no clue about responsiblity and they tend to not think it's important. Parents are totally absorbed in responsibility and may tend to undervalue things that are important to teens (music, fun, hanging with friends, leisure etc.)

I think people who are my age (20s and 30s) and teenagers. They use completely different grammar, they use all this internet lingo (IDK, 2, etc) that we don't understand. I think that the technology at their age is so advanced, that I don't know how to work half of the things they are talking about, plus they are so connected with the outside world with social networking sites.
