What do I need to know? Do I need to follow them around the house, do I have to worry about stuff being stolen? What kinds of chores can I ask or not ask them to do?

My husband and I own a housecleaning company. There are countless things I can think of that you may "need" to know, but every company/person is different. Up front, most people want to know the price. Some companies/people can quote you over the phone or email, however, they have every right to raise the price when they get there if your home is dirtier than expected - and they will. There are others that come to your home and do a walk thru. This can be inconvenient, yet if your concerned about theft and/or have questions for them - that is the best time to meet with them and ask them your questions - get on the same page of what you expect of them and what they expect to do. Most of them will do extra chores like laundry or change sheets, etc - some as part of their included services and some will charge extra.

As a note, please don't follow them around - put yourself in their shoes - it is honestly annoying and unconfortable. You would think that if you had your eye constantly on them, they would clean better, however, it is so uncomfortable, I know we just want to clean faster to avoid that horrible feeling of staring eyes. You should however, check in on them from time to time - that is okay. Good luck in your efforts of finding someone to clean your home! If you have any questions - you can email me at crazypelo77@yahoo.com.

I lean homes for a living and make a decent living at it. When you hire a cleaning service they will do regular house work but may charge extra for cleaning out a refrigerator, oven or to wash windows. Here in Florida the average charge is $75 . The cleaning company usually send in a team of 2 people and if the house is half way decent they are out in a hour or less. A cleaning service is also licensed and bonded so if something is broken they pay for there mistake.

I´m sure you need to have some kind of contract with them,So if anything does go missing they will be responsible. I worked in private houses , for many year´s ,I was never followed around, in-fact the owners of the house were never in. 3 different cleaning job´s and 3 different households. I think If you can´t trust someone else in your home , then best not have someone else in your home. But sure if it´s a reputable company there should be no problem

If you hire a cleaning service they should be bonded and licensed so if anything is broken or stolen their insurance covers it. Just make sure that all valuables are not out in plain site, like jewelry, expensive video games, etc. I have a housecleaning job and the guy I clean for always has money, games, etc sitting out, but he knows that I wouldn't take it. I just move it to clean.

we have merry maids come in once a month. we're always home when they are here, but we're not watching over their backs every minute. so far, nothing has been stolen or anything like that. since it's a well known company, they don't let just anybody in to clean your house.

you can ask them to pay special attention to certain rooms. they clean just about anything and everything. ask them to do whatever you need.

References are a big thing when you are trusting someone with your home.

Make a list of everything you want done. And also place things or arrange things just so a few times when they first start. That way, if they are not moving things and getting in the nooks and crannies, you'll know and you can fire them.

It should be fine just make sure you hire a big name, like merry maids or something. Because the small cleaning services always do a bad job.
