Yes men know when they are about to ejaculate. However, by the time the sensation registers in our brain it is to late to stop it. A boy can tell when he is about to ejaculate but once the process starts he can't stop it. It is like a sneeze. You know you are about to sneeze but you can't keep from it. If you want to know you need to watch your lover closely. There are a few signs. The scrotum shrinks up close to the body, then the testicles get real close to the abdominal area very close to the base of the penis. They then rotate slightly and the man ejaculates.

He's not really lying. I'd have to say for thr most part-males "know" that it's on it's way. I have "Edged" for years and so I can actually stop it-BUT!!!! I push it too far and squirt every once-in -a-while. Most males do-but I'm sure there are males that get caught up in the primal need to breed at the moment and over-ride thier "civilized" morals.
There are ways to contol it so both enjoy.
