I have a business where I make memory videos for people and I don't want to get screwed down the road. If I or the customer buy the music, am I violating any copyright laws?

To make copies of the music you need written permission of the copyright holder. It does not matter if you sell then, give them away or use them for personal use.

If you're making money off of it, you are violating copyright laws.

you can get zapped for both the music and the recording of the music, both may be protected. it is safer to get licensed music such as http://www.pianobrothers.com where for $99 you get a CD that can be used as often as you want. or to go with public domain recordings at http://www.pastmasters.us where for $25 you get unrestricted use of a CD.
