the first practices can be hell but just get through them
they will work on plays and break you up into groups to work on different things but there is still a lot of running
i have notices that if a weaker player out hustles the more talented player they might get the starting position because the coaches respect hard work
the first practice might be offense and the next might be defense
the other thing you have to realize is this will help your performance when it comes to game day
it really pays of to condition beforehand at your own pace
its defiantly worth it

It just means you have two regular practice sessions in the same day. You might work on running offensive plays in the morning and then do some defense and lots of tackling drills in the afternoon.
Yes, you are going to run alot before the season starts and you are going to do alot of hitting drills. There are two reasons for this, first to get you in shape for the season and second to weed out those that can't take it. How much of the team quits will depend on how large your school is and how many people came out for the team. If you are at a large school with lots of available talent, then some people might not be willing to put out so much effort just to ride the bench all season.
The harder you work now, the easier the season is going to be, because you will be in better shape and be better prepared mentally.

I imagine your percentage is pretty close, if not low. The reason that football players have to go through this, and I stress have to, is for the pure conditioning phase of things. If you are not able to play deep into the fourth quarter, it's where many games are decided, and it's a brutally long season full of bumps and bruises. Back when I played we had three-a-days, and they were murder, but I have never been in better shape and I was very disciplined in other aspects of my life. I know it may seem tough, but just gut it out, you'll be thankful for it in many ways!

We did two a days for 2 weeks the main point was get in shape, run through plays, and get reacquainted with football after a long season off. Some people do quit but if they do I suppose football wasnt really for them then.

The first few days are usually all about conditioning and technique drills. You'll put in some of the basic plays but the purpose for 2 a days is mainly conditioning and it gives the coaches a chance to see the athletic talent they have.

Depends on the coach but most of the time it's conditioning drills in the morning and break up into individual defensive and offensive units to practice fundamentals in the afternoon. Toward the end of 2 a days you might get scrimmages between the offense and defense in the afternoon.

2-A-Days are as much about team chemistry as anything else. It helps weed out players who are in it for the wrong reasons--status, recognition, etc. The percentage of players who quit during Hell Week varies at different levels, but in HS it was always around 20-25%, and college was between 5-10% this year. 4 yrs HS, 1 yr college ball so far

Early on there is a lot of running and other conditioning drills. As the days wear on then there is lot more situation work done.
Of course one of the reasons 2-a-days are done is that there is a lot of work to do for a team to be able to learn and execute many hundreds of plays, and to execute them correctly.
Another reason, which was explained in a Yahoo Sports column by Terry Bowden, is to identify who is a tough player. In Bowden's article he explained that he wanted to a player to go through tough times in order to be able to trust him in key late-game situations, when it is likely that the players will be tired.
